Expand your scanner's capabilities
One holder adapts to many film sizes and you do not have to buy a separate adapter to mount each format. Less common 5x7, XPan, 126, 127, 110 Instamatic plus more common film formats (35mm, medium format, 4x5, etc.) can be accommodated. The useable scanning area targets the more narrow field of view for the Epson® V Series' second "high resolution" scanning lens.
The useable mounting area is approximately 243 mm x 173 mm or 9.5" x 6.8".
The useable scanning area is limited by the high resolution lens' more narrow field of view plus the required space for the calibration gap and mounting film. Thus the scanning area is approximately 225 mm x 145 mm (8.85" x 5.71") for fluid mounting and slightly less at 215 mm x 145 mm (8.46" x 5.71") for dry mounting.
Gives you the ability to do "full frame" scanning where you can include film edges and markings
Precisely adjusts to your scanner's unique optimum film suspension height. The built-in adjusters are infinitely variable and do not rely on unwieldy shim pieces.
Less chance of fluid damaging your scanner because film is not mounted while it is directly on the scanner. Therefore there is less opportunity for fluid to seep into the scanner case and where it can damage the internal parts.
Advantages compared to the OEM Epson fluid tray
No rubber gasket needed to seal the glass. Users are finding the gasket of the Epson® fluid tray often does not tolerate prolonged contact with mounting fluid.
Infinitely adjustable height. For instance, you can achieve heights of 1.75 mm, 3.3 mm, 3.75 mm, or whatever your particular scanner requires for optimal film suspension height.
Provides an adjustment range from approximately 1.0 mm (pre-V Series) or 1.5 mm (V Series) to more than 4.5 mm in the event it is needed
Dense plastic frame construction - no paperboard products are used
Undermounting* of the film is implemented. Some of the benefits include:
No extra layer of glass through which the scan must made so sharpness can be improved compared to other methods
Glass is positioned between the light source and the film (i.e. behind the film). Therefore, the glass absorbs heat from the scanning lamp and drastically lowers the potential for film warping due to heat from the lamp.
*Note: The undermounting concept was pioneered by Ernst Dinkla who operates a high-end scanning and digital fine-art printing service for customers worldwide at www.pigment-print.com. (Ernst is a friend but I do not want to unfairly imply that he is affiliated with this product.)
Light masks are implemented to reduce flare. Four matte black plastic uncut light masking inserts are included and over 20 film format templates are made available.
